How to make a scatter plot using scatterplot.online - tutorial

In this article I would like to show how to make a scatter plot using scatterplot.online website.

You can make a scatter plot in 3 easy steps:

  1. Upload your data (from spreadsheet or csv file).
  2. Customize it - adjust axes, colors and shapes.
  3. Export the scatter chart and save it on your computer.
This tutorial explains just the first step. I will explain what types of data are supported.

Scatter plot from a spreadsheet table

Data from popular spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Libre Office or Numbers can be used. Just select and copy cells then paste them into the box on the page. You can but you do not have to select the header row.

Scatter plot from CSV data

CSV stands for comma separated values and it is a simple tabular data format where each row of the data is in a separate line and columns are separated by a comma. You can copy paste the content of the file into the box on the page.

You can also drag and drop the file directly.

Make a scatter plot

There exist other flavours of delimiter separated data formats like for example Tab Separated Values (TSV). Those should work too. You could also use other symbols e.g. semicolon to separate the columns. Just be careful so that your data is separated with tabs and not spaces.

Comma separated:

Fruit,Fiber,Vitamine C
Lemons,2.8,0.053
Pineapples,1.4,0.0478
Apples,2.4,0.0046
Cherries,1.6,0.01
Strawberries,2.0,0.0588
Oranges,2.4,0.0532
Watermelons,0.4,0.0081
Grapes,0.9,0.0108
Kiwis,3.0,0.0927

Semicolon separated:

Fruit;Fiber;Vitamine C
Lemons;2.8;0.053
Pineapples;1.4;0.0478
Apples;2.4;0.0046
Cherries;1.6;0.01
Strawberries;2.0;0.0588
Oranges;2.4;0.0532
Watermelons;0.4;0.0081
Grapes;0.9;0.0108
Kiwis;3.0;0.0927

Tab separated (tab, not space):

Fruit Fiber Vitamine C
Lemons 2.8 0.053
Pineapples 1.4 0.0478
Apples 2.4 0.0046
Cherries 1.6 0.01
Strawberries 2.0 0.0588
Oranges 2.4 0.0532
Watermelons 0.4 0.0081
Grapes 0.9 0.0108
Kiwis 3.0 0.0927

Scatter plot from a URL

Finally, if your CSV data file is already hosted online and you have a URL to it you can copy-paste the url itself.
